An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Whipps Cross, Barts health NHS Trust. The post holder will support provision of inpatient and outpatient care for patients with general Gastroenterology problems. Furthermore, the appointee will be expected to perform endoscopy, including being part of the GI Bleed rota. There are MDTs in HPB medicine and General Gastroenterology together with X-ray and pathology meetings.
There is also opportunity for the Gastroenterologist to be a part of the general medical rota (weekdays only, currently 1:14).
The post holders will work alongside the established gastroenterology consultants - Dr Sami Hoque (Clinical Lead), Dr Elspeth Alstead, Dr Elizabeth Carty, Dr Alan Watson, Dr Sudeep Tanwar, Dr Christian Ardley and Dr El-Sherif to support a large provision of inpatient, outpatient and endoscopy care. Full registration with the GMC is essential or within 6 months of completion of CCT.
Gastroenterology sits within the Division of Medicine directorate. The Department of Gastroenterology receives a high volume of clinical specialty, seeing approximately 8000 out-patients, performing approximately 7000 endoscopic procedures and admitting approximately 500 patients annually. The Department offers a wide range of services including nutrition, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, inflammatory bowel disease and functional bowel disorders.
Endoscopy is provided within a modern 3-roomed unit with integrated screening which takes part in the National Endoscopy Programme. We were a part of the first wave in the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme in early 2007.
