Specialty Doctor - Haematology
The post holder will be expected to participate fully in the provision of haematology services to the Hospital. The post holder will work on a 10PA contract.
The haematology team will include 3 consultants at full capacity, 1 specialist doctor and 3 clinical nurse specialists. There is intention to add a further middle grade doctor post in the near future. There are also two Haematology CNS for malignancies who support the team along with one more CNS for Non Malignant Haematology. We have 6 side rooms allocated in AGH for our Haematology patients, based on W19 and we deliver chemotherapy or blood transfusion to our patients in our busy HaemaOngology Day Unit (HODU). HODU is equipped with a current layout of 19 chairs, 1 trolley and 4 treatment rooms.
In addition to HODU, during August 2018 the trust acquired a Mobile Cancer Care Unit (MCCU) in partnership with their charitable partners Hope for Tomorrow. This enables the trust to deliver cancer treatments to patients closer to their home. The MCCU has 4 chairs on board.
In conjunction with ‘Guidance on Cancer Services – Improving Outcomes in Haematological Cancers’, all patients from the Airedale catchment area requiring intensive in-patient chemotherapy for acute leukaemia and complex lymphoma are transferred to Bradford Foundation Hospitals NHS Trust for treatment. The successful candidate will participate in the management of such patients as part of the integrated team.
The Pathology Service is a Joint Venture provided by Integrated Pathology Solutions™ which is a wholly owned subsidiary of Airedale NHS Foundation Trust and Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. For Airedale the service is based at Airedale General Hospital and comprises Departments of Histopathology, Clinical Chemistry, Microbiology and Haematology. It provides a service to the hospital and the surrounding clinics and general practices, employs over 250 staff and has an annual budget of over £15 million. All of the departments are housed in a single laboratory area and share facilities such as reception, administrative and secretarial support. The laboratories underwent a major £400K refurbishment during 2014, which expanded and modernised the laboratories, and provided additional laboratory facilities. A further laboratory extension has just been opened as part of a £6 million Acute Medical Unit and Pathology Laboratory development
