Whipps Cross University Hospital

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Rheumatologist based at Whipps Cross University Hospital Site. We are looking to recruit a replacement for Rheumatology Consultant with GIM (8 PA rheumatology and 2 PA medicine).

The successful applicant will support and develop the high quality rheumatology service and be responsible for providing general in-patient and outpatient adult rheumatology care.

Rheumatology sits within the ECAM (Emergency Care and Acute Medicine) directorate. Barts Health Rheumatology Service has been established for over 50 years and during that time has become recognised as a leading national and international rheumatology centre of excellence. Many members of the teams are leading UK experts in their fields and all provide high quality specialist care.

The Department catchment area covers East London, Essex and further afield and is the 2nd largest department in the UK. It hasbeen awarded the BSR Best Practice award in the category of emerging best practice and has also won multiple NIHR awards for clinical research.

The department provides for a broad spectrum of specialist areas including: Ankylosing Spondylitis, early arthritis clinic, psoriatic arthritis, chronic pain management, sports medicine, osteoporosis, complex spinal problems, connective tissue diseases, vasculitis, adolescent rheumatology and obstetric rheumatology. There are a wide range of opportunities for the post holder to develop a clinical interest.

We have an active clinical research unit on site, in which the post holder would be encouraged to participate. We are also a major teaching centre for medical students from QMW, University of London and the post holder will have responsibility to manage undergraduate teaching in the department.

The medicine  component would involve a 1 in 10 cover of acute medicine and the post holder will participate in the medical on call (currently 1 in 27 weekdays and 1 in 20 weekends). There will be no rheumatology clinical commitment during these weeks.

Our mission is to bring excellence to life through the use of pioneering technology, evidence-based medicine and first class clinical care.
