This post is newly created to support the increased workload and development of the Neurology Department and we welcome applications from candidates with a sub-speciality interest that will complement the range of services currently provided.

Duties will be split between the Luton and Dunstable University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (L&D) (8.5 PA’s) and Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust (RFH) (1.5 PA’s).

Appointees will join a team of eight existing consultants, rotating Specialty Trainee and Senior Clinical Fellows in providing a comprehensive Neurology service. In addition to excellent CT and MRI the L&D has a well-established Neurophysiology Department, headed by a Consultant Neurophysiologist on site. The hospital is a recognised centre for management of hyperacute stroke patients.

Successful candidates will attend departmental meetings, supervise inpatient care and deliver outpatient care at the Royal Free.

The Hospital has always been renowned for its friendly atmosphere and good working relationships. The Trust has University Hospital status with UCL and the Royal Free, which provides an opportunity to strengthen our teaching and R&D programme and brings a more academic environment to the hospital. This department is fully committed to teaching and training both undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.

The Hospital has easy access to central London and the rural Chilterns. Excellent schools are found nearby. There is also very good access to the Midlands and London by road or by rail. London Luton Airport is within fifteen minutes drive of the hospital. Residence is required within ten miles by road or up to thirty minutes travelling time of the hospital.

Applicants must be fully registered on the UK General Medical Council’s Specialist Register and have MRCP. Specialist Registrars may apply if within six months of CCT. Candidates unable for personal reasons to work full-time are also invited to apply.

For further information or to arrange an appointment for an informal visit please contact Dr Paul Watts, Consultant Neurologist and Clinical Director for Neurology at L&D on 01582 497240, and
Dr Jonathan Kennedy, Clinical Director of Neurosciences at the Royal Free Hampstead NHS Trust (RFH).
