Locum Consultant in Paediatric Haematology

This is a full-time locum post, which offers an opportunity for a talented clinician to join our existing paediatric malignant haematology teams. The post holder would be expected to contribute to the attending physician rota for malignant haematology and the care of leukaemia patients in shared care throughout the SW region. Depending on the qualifications of the applicant, contribution to the clinical Bone Marrow Transplant Service and/or malignant haematopathology diagnostic service is desirable but not essential. This job is suitable for applicants with training in either paediatric oncology or paediatric haematology.
Acute attending is 1 in 3 and there will also be 8 peripheral clinics a year. The post is for 6-12 months, with potential for extension. The start date is as soon as possible.
You will be part of a dedicated medical team of 12 Consultants (including this post), 2 specialty doctors, 6 Oncology Specialist Registrars/Clinical fellows, 2 APNP an ST2/3 and 8 Clinical Nurse Specialists.
Bristol has a very active malignant haematology service, serving as the primary treatment centre for all children with malignant disease from across the South West area. There are approximately 35-40 new malignant haematology referrals per year. Inpatient care is provided in a 17 bedded paediatric oncology and stem cell transplant unit, 4 dedicated adolescent oncology beds on the children’s hospital adolescent ward and the TYA unit in the adjacent adult oncology building. All of these are newly built/were extensively refurbished in the last year. All rooms benefit from HEPA filtration. Apheresis and extracorporeal photopheresis services are provided on site. There are dedicated oncology outpatient facilities both within the children’s hospital and TYA unit.
