Applications are invited for a consultant neurosurgeon at the North Bristol NHS trust to maintain the practice of the full-time adult epilepsy surgeon who has retired.
The post will be a full time, 10 PA contract contributing to the 12-consultant on call rota. The elective practice will focus on epilepsy surgery with the successful candidate contributing to the Epilepsy Surgery MDT on a weekly basis. Qualifications for the post will include a CCT in neurosurgery or equivalent and evidence of advanced specialist postgraduate training in epilepsy surgery.
The successful candidate will need to have the necessary experience of image processing, image guidance and robotics required for modern epilepsy surgery. In addition, the trust is looking to develop links between the epilepsy surgery and neuro-oncology MDT’s so that experience of tumour surgery will also be beneficial. Applicants are required to be on the Specialist Register for Neurosurgery, have CCT in Neurosurgery (or equivalent) or be within six months of obtaining it by the interview date. Full Registration with the GMC is essential. The post is based Southmead Hospital. The Trust has teaching status and is linked with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. The appointee will be required to reside not more than 30 minutes travel by road from Southmead Hospital, Bristol, for on-call purposes. Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent is essential. The successful candidate will be employed under Terms & Conditions of Service for Consultants (England) 2003.
