CONSULTANT OPHTHALMOLOGIST WITH AN INTEREST IN SURGICAL AND MEDICAL RETINA 10 + 1 PAs

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed colleague to join our dynamic team, to help deliver a first-class ophthalmic service for Bournemouth and Dorset. We highly value teamwork, and the candidate must complement and enhance the existing consultant body. In the national NHS staff survey our trust was recently recognised as the top trust in the country in which to work. We have the opportunity for an enviable work life balance with easy access to countryside and coast in Hampshire and Dorset.

We are a friendly hospital with an interactive and innovative approach from our management team. Patient care is at the centre of all we do and we would welcome a candidate who is prepared to follow the principle of “would I be happy for a member of my own family to receive this care/treatment?” and strive for excellence.

You’ll join a team of 13 consultants, two associate specialists, four Trust grade doctors and six trainees.

The outpatient department is equipped with Zeiss Imaging with networked software, 2 OCT scanners, Argon, Yag, cyclodiode, SLT lasers and a multispot laser. There is a separate eye emergency department (run as an Acute Referral Clinic), an orthoptic department with children’s waiting room and a minor operations room for local anaesthesia. The outpatient area is currently being redeveloped to incorporate a new purpose-built macular suite with three multifunctional consultation/ injection rooms and two further consultation rooms. There is also a daycase, 3-bedded paediatric and 16-bedded inpatient ward and a surgical unit with three dedicated eye theatres equipped with state of the art Alcon phacoemulsification/vitrectomy machines.

Applicants should have full GMC registration and be either on or eligible for inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for Ophthalmology.

Closing date: 15 July 2019. Interview date: 4 September 2019.

Awaiting Royal College approval of job description.
