Consultant Anaesthetist with a General, Pain or ICU interest
Full time or Part-time
Salary Scale - £80,653 - £107,170 per annum (pro rata)
NHS Forth Valley seeks to appoint Consultant Anaesthetists to support a major service development. These posts represent the third phase of this expansion.
The post holders will work within the existing Anaesthesia Team, comprising 33 Consultants, one Associate Specialist, two Specialty Doctors and some 17 trainees who share responsibility for providing a comprehensive clinical anaesthetic service for NHS Forth Valley. These new posts will help to support a major service development within NHS Forth Valley. Services are centralised in the Forth Valley Royal Hospital, Larbert with pain management clinics at Falkirk Community Hospital.
We will attempt to accommodate any subspecialty interest undertaken within Forth Valley, including critical care and chronic pain management. The posts will involve working on-site out of hours and overnight, as part of normal job planned activity. The appointees must therefore have the capability to deliver and support trainees and other members of the Anaesthesia Team delivering obstetric, critical care and emergency anaesthetic services. Applicants are encouraged to discuss this aspect of the post with colleagues currently working in this way.
The Anaesthesia team supports a wide range of surgical specialties. There are active obstetric and paediatric services as well as acute and chronic pain services. The anaesthetic service is focused on surgical models such as Day of Surgery Admission, Day Case Surgery, Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS), improving pre-operative preparation and developing the Anaesthesia Team (including initiatives such as the Physician Assistant – Anaesthesia).
Applicants are encouraged to visit the Anaesthetic department and meet key staff. Informal enquiries should be directed by telephone to Dr Chris Cairns (Clinical Director) or Dr Kathryn McIntosh (Department Chair) on 01324 567349.
