East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust, with links to the University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University, was established on 1st April 1999 and manages three acute district general hospitals (at Margate, Canterbury and Ashford) with two supporting hospitals (at Dover and Folkestone). The Trust was awarded University status in August 2008 and Foundation status in April 2009. The Trust is one of the largest in the country, employing over 6500 people with a budget of around £480M.
We are now able to offer this exciting opportunity to join the team of 14 consultants (13 full time, 1 part time) in East Kent. The Cellular Pathology service, which has obtained UKAS ISO15189 accreditation, is centralised in Ashford at the William Harvey Hospital.
Cellular Pathology is a progressive, dynamic and innovative discipline.
Most of the consultants sub specialise in 2 - 4 areas of surgical pathology. This is a replacement post. It is desirable to have a subspeciality interest in one or more of the following: breast, skin, gynaecology, head & neck and non-gynaecological cytology. The post-holder will also be given flexibility within the existing structure to develop further sub-specialist interests. There is an opportunity to participate in the coronial postmortem rota if this is desired but this is not essential.
We are one of the hospitals in the London/KSS deanery histopathology training rotation so we regularly have histopathology trainees in the department. We are also a teaching hospital, with medical students from GKT medical school having placements in East Kent in recent years and we now have the exciting new opportunity of working with Kent and Medway’s new Medical School, jointly provided by the University of Kent and Canterbury Christchurch University, which opens in September 2020.
The post attracts 11 PAs (including 2 SPAs).
The post-holder will have full GMC registration, will be a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists or equivalent, and be on the Specialist Register or within six months of receiving the certificate of completion of training (CCT) at the time of the interview.
