Consultant Physician in Acute Medicine

- Full Time
We are delighted to be able to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join our Acute Medical team, as Consultant Physician in Acute Medicine at Yeovil District Hospital (YDH). This is a substantive or fixed term position. The purpose of this post is to work within our acute medical team, to provide cutting edge, safe, high-quality care for acute unscheduled medical patients.
We are looking for an Acute Physician who will embrace new ideas and develop new services. The successful candidate joins 3 Consultant Physicians in Acute Medicine, working within the Emergency Admissions Unit, Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit (AEC) and the Emergency Department. They will work 11 PA’s per week and will take part in the Consultant on call commitment of 1 in 14 over the weekend and 1 in 13 for weekdays.
It is an extremely exciting time to join Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation as we have recently developed our Ambulatory Emergency Care Unit which is supported by Advanced Nurse Practitioners. The post holder will take a key role in the support and further development of AEC and so experience or an interest in this area would be an advantage.
The post holder will have responsibility for diagnosis, treatment and aftercare of acute general medical patients presenting as emergencies. Working with the existing Acute and General Physicians, the post holder will be responsible for providing both inpatient and acute outpatient services for Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This is an ideal opportunity to join the team, and shape the future of the service to improve the patient experience.
Applicants must have MRCP qualifications, or equivalent, be fully registered with the GMC, and hold a license to practice. Applicants must have entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of the interview date), CESR or European Community Rights.
Yeovil Hospital is situated in Yeovil, nestled between two of the most desired counties to live in in England: Dorset and Somerset. Like the local delicacies Lardy cake and Dorset Apple Cake it can only be described as indulgent. If clear skies, clean air, rambling, twitching, hiking, or simply sitting back and watching nature go by is how you like to enjoy your leisure time, then you’ll enjoy the setting. All within approximately two hours of London – and an hour from the nearest Ikea and airport (which is probably closer than if you lived in London; and undoubtedly cheaper in house rent)
