Applications are invited for an expansion Consultant post, to allow the department to both maintain current services and to facilitate the development of a new Sleep and Ventilation service.

The successful candidate will join a team of 8 other respiratory physicians operating a rotational timetable.  General responsibilities will include managing inpatients, providing an outpatient General Respiratory service and performing diagnostic bronchoscopy.  The successful candidate will also work alongside the Lead for Sleep and Ventilation, Dr Rebecca Mason, to help deliver a new diagnostic and management patient pathway – including sleep study reporting, remote clinics, outpatient face to face clinics, MDTs and an in-reach service for inpatients.  Additional subspecialty interests in areas that complement the department’s existing services may also be accommodated.  Postholders will also be expected to take part in the Acute General Medical on call.  Applicants must be registered with a license to practice and on the GMC specialist register or within 6 months of obtaining their CCST at the time of interview.

There is support from four Specialist Registrars, one CT1, one F2, one GPST and three F1 junior doctors.  The RUH has a specialist Respiratory Ward with high care unit, a fully equipped lung function laboratory, excellent multidisciplinary support (including Respiratory Nurse Specialists, Medical Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Psychologist and Outpatient physiotherapist) and a Pulmonary Rehabilitation programme.  A number of specialist services are delivered on site including regional Pulmonary Hypertension and CTD-ILD services, a multidisciplinary Bronchiectasis service, EBUS and thoracoscopy.  The department also works with a community based service (IMPACT) that provides nursing & physiotherapy-based care closer to home for patients with COPD and bronchiectasis.

Further details are available from Dr Jay Suntharalingam, Lead Clinician in Respiratory Medicine, Tel. 01225 825408 and Dr Becs Mason 01225 825322.
