Applications are invited for a full time Specialty Doctor in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery to commence as soon as possible. The senior semi-independent (supported by consultants as necessary) post is based at Lister Hospital in Stevenage and comprise of 10 programmed activities (PAs) with on-call commitment. The appointee will be supported in their personal professional development and encouraged to develop their skills and experience and knowledge in a subspecialist area of interest. The unit strengths are in hand surgery, breast reconstruction and skin cancer treatment.  

This is an excellent opportunity within the Plastic Surgery department at East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust. The appointee will be expected to cover clinical sessions specified in the provisional job plan, as below. They will be expected to provide general plastic surgery service and will be encouraged to develop a sub-specialist interest aligned with service needs. The appointee will join a team of eight consultants, a specialty doctor, a full complement of junior and support staff. The ability to work closely and flexibly with colleagues including consultants, junior staff & management team is an essential requirement for this appointment.

Following the investment of £150 million in major new facilities at the Lister, along with a £30 million New QEII hospital built by the local clinical commissioning group, the East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust has brought together all its specialist emergency and inpatient services at the Stevenage hospital.  Our state-of–the-art clinical facilities include a major new Emergency Department, the Hertfordshire Cardiology Centre (which includes a 24/7 PPCI service), new scanning centre, McMillan chemotherapy unit, ward, endoscopy and theatre blocks.

Applicants must hold full registration and licence with the GMC and have completed at least four years’ full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in plastic surgery or as a fixed term specialty trainee in plastic surgery; or shall have equivalent experience and competencies.
