SUBSTANTIVE CONSULTANT IN PAEDIATRIC RESPIRATORY MEDICINE (1 WTE-10PAs)
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine at Birmingham Children’s Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to join a friendly, cohesive and expanding team in a busy department with an excellent reputation.
This is a substantive post (1 WTE) to replace the current locum appointment which was developed as a result of retirement of one of the six Consultants. The post holder will cover most aspects of respiratory medicine and Cystic fibrosis (CF), with scope to develop an area of sub-specialty interest to complement the service.
The Department of Respiratory Medicine and Cystic Fibrosis is currently staffed by 6 Consultants (4.3 substantive WTE and 1.0 locum appointment) 3 ST2-8 trainees and 1 F2 doctor and 2 fellows within an expanding, dynamic multi-disciplinary team. The department provides a comprehensive clinical tertiary service for respiratory and CF patients from the West Midlands, and specialist input to a large number of paediatric sub-speciality services. Birmingham Children’s Hospital is a dedicated children's hospital providing secondary level paediatric services for the City of Birmingham, and a full range of tertiary level services for the West Midlands region (population 5.2m). Many of its specialist services extend their referral base beyond the regional boundaries. It also hosts a number of national services. There is an active research and paediatric training programme within the hospital.
Applicants should be on the General Medical Council’s Specialist Register for Paediatric Respiratory Medicine, or be eligible for entry onto the Register within 6 months of the time of interview. The proposed start date is September 2019 (could be subject to change).
