Adult Community Psychiatry Consultant

Pay Scale: £77,913 - £105,042 per annum

Area: Taunton

This post has arisen following the retirement of the postholder. It is a 10 PA post which includes 2.5 PA SPA.

The post is supported by another full time consultant and two part time Associate Specialists. Taunton also has Early intervention team and Home treatment team with dedicated consultants in both. Also there are county wide Eating Disorder and Perinatal services with dedicated consultants in both teams.

The Taunton CMHS is based in Foundation house on the same site as the inpatient ward and PICU. This has allowed the development of good working relationships across all the teams.

The postholder is encouraged to develop special interests which can be job planned and supported by the Trust.

The post is open to a suitable candidate who is not on the specialist register but has plans to go through the CESR process. The Trust actively supports this and has a Consultant dedicated to support this process (Dr Anton Muller).

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Deliver direct interventions including assessment, diagnosis and treatment of mental and physical health needs of patients referred to and under the care of Taunton CMHS
  • Provide leadership to the CMHS. This will be via contribution to the local leadership team meetings and other team meetings and forums.
  • Responsible Clinician for patients subject to a compulsory treatment order under the Mental Health Act and section 37/41
  • Undertake MHA assessments as the Trust Section 12 doctor for patients in their care (including those detained under S136);
  • Work closely with the inpatient and other community teams to provide effective multidisciplinary collaborative care; this will include availability for consultation, case discussion and advice at the request of team members and / or team managers;
  • Provide visible and clear clinical leadership to the mental health service both locally and across the Trust;
  • Work collaboratively with other clinical staff to ensure smooth transition for patients admitted and discharged from the ward;
  • Contribute to the development of best practice,
  • Participate in Medical Audit, including audit of their own practice and attendance at quarterly Medical Audit meetings;
  • Provide cross cover for planned leave with the other medical staff;

 

Requirements:

 

Medical qualifications and GMC registration including on the Specialist register.

Post graduate experience in Adult psychiatry including MRCPsych

The successful candidate will be Section 12 approved, and may apply for AC status.

Taunton is Somerset’s county town and Foundation is less than 10 minutes from the M5. Distance to Bristol and London are less than 1 hour and 2 hours, respectively.

Ideally situated to explore the stunning scenery of the Quantock Hills.

Somerset itself offers an outstanding quality of life, with easy access to the moorland and coast and has a thriving arts and entertainment scene.

Somerset has some of the region’s most reasonably priced housing, and is well serviced by a range of high achieving state and private schools.
