Do you want to work in a friendly department within the HSJ Highly Commended Acute Trust of the year 2018?
Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Anaesthetist with an interest in Critical Care at the Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will be in a team of 8 Consultant Anaesthetists whose job plans are divided between critical care and providing anaesthesia for surgical lists. This is a replacement post and is a full-time 10PA Contract. An additional 1.0 Direct Care PA will be offered.
In the National Staff Survey our trust was recognised as the top trust in the country in which to work. We have the opportunity for an enviable work life balance with miles of sandy beaches and a large natural harbour on our doorstep, as well as easy access to the Purbecks, New Forest and beautiful Dorset countryside.
We are proud to have received Anaesthesia Clinical Services Accreditation (ACSA) from the Royal College of Anaesthetists after an extensive Peer review in recognition of our commitment to quality and patient care. We also continue to have excellent feedback from the trainees who rotate through our unit from the Wessex Deanery in recognition of our training at all levels of the curriculum.
We are a cohesive, friendly department and actively planning for significant service reconfiguration with other Trusts in Dorset, which will result in a larger new build critical care provision at Bournemouth. The anaesthesia component of the post could involve working at Poole Hospital in the medium to long-term as this will be the centre for elective surgery.
At present, the Royal Bournemouth Hospital is the regional centre for cardiology and vascular surgery. Furthermore, we undertake a high number of upper GI surgeries. In the future merged organisation we will also be undertaking head and neck surgery, trauma as well as being the centre for all paediatrics and obstetrics. We maintain good links with our local teaching hospital in Southampton for referral for neurological support and cardiothoracics, with active involvement in our Critical Care network.
This will be an exciting opportunity to become involved in shaping and planning the service, striving for excellence for our patients.
