Consultant Urological Surgeon

Applications are invited for a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is a replacement post; the successful candidate will join a team of 4 Consultant Urological Surgeons based at Leighton Hospital in Crewe. This is a general urology post with the potential for sub-specialty interest in Endourology. This post will have a urological emergency ‘on call’ commitment on a 1:5 basis.

You will be joining a busy Urology department in a District General Hospital (567 beds), serving a population of approximately 300,000 across Central Cheshire. The Trust was rated “Good” by the CQC from its 2014 and 2018 full inspections. We have a good reputation for research and benefit from some of the very latest clinical facilities which include state-of-the-art theatres and a dedicated day case Treatment Centre.

The department has sub-specialist interests in Endourology (including complex stone work), as well as Functional/Female Urology (including tertiary referrals for patients with painful bladder syndrome). The department has a high workload in Uro-oncology and works closely with our Greater Manchester cancer network partners and visiting clinicians from Stockport NHS Foundation Trust (where all laparoscopic and robotic cancer surgery is performed), and The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, Manchester to provide a comprehensive service for all urological cancers. All Consultants are involved in General/Core Urology, working in a multi-disciplinary fashion with our benign and cancer Specialist Nurses. The department also has well established pathways for managing common urological problems with local clinical commissioning groups.

The department has an excellent regional reputation in Specialty Urological Training. It is a popular rotation amongst trainees due to the clinical exposure provided, and actively encourages audit and research with presentations and publications made at local, regional, and national level.

Applicants must have full registration with the GMC including a Licence to Practise, and be on the Specialist Register (or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training).

The posts are offered on a full-time basis; however, the Trust would welcome discussion with individuals looking for a more flexible working pattern to support a different work life balance.
