LOCUM CONSULTANT IN REHABILITATION MEDICINE (6 MONTHS)

The Mid Yorks NHS Hospital Trust Department of Neurosciences require a locum consultant in rehabilitation medicine to support service developments within Mid Yorkshire NHS Hospital Trust and the Barnsley community services area.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to expand existing well-established Rehabilitation Medicine services into the Barnsley area and to provide consultant leadership to develop the existing community inpatient and community services into a Specialist Complex Neuro Rehabilitation Service at the Kendray unit at Barnsley, alongside allied specialist outpatient rehabilitation services and consultant support to the Regional Assistive Technology Service.

The secondment of the Current Post Holder has permitted the present post to be created as a backfill for a full-time Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine. This is a job whose remit is particularly to lead the level II rehabilitation units based at Dewsbury hospital in combination with providing consultant input into the well-established specialist rehabilitation medicine outpatient services already provided across the trust.

You will work very closely with the two current rehabilitation physicians one of whom is a Consultant in Neurological Rehabilitation, and one of whom is a stroke physician as well as having a CCT in Rehabilitation Medicine. For the right candidate there will be opportunity to discuss the possibility of contributing to the spinal injuries unit on-call rota. You will also work closely with the team of Stroke Physicians, Consultant Neurologists, Consultant Neuropsychologists, Consultant Neurophysiologists and a Consultant physiotherapist.

You will assist in delivering holistic patient focused care by multi-disciplinary and multi-speciality collaboration. There will be an opportunity to provide leadership within a specialist inpatient unit.

The post is expected to support the whole rehabilitation journey which will cover acute rehabilitation, outpatient rehabilitation alongside some support of community services and the expansion geographically of specialist spasticity and botulinum toxin services.

The NRC Neurological Rehabilitation Centre within the Neurosciences Unit provides a sub-regional Neurological Service to parts of West Yorkshire, South and South-West Yorkshire including Huddersfield Halifax and parts of Barnsley.
