Salary: £39,060 to £72,840 plus on-call supplement to be discussed at interview

St Giles Hospice is a thriving independent charity based in the Staffordshire countryside providing specialist palliative care for adults with life-limiting illnesses and their families.
This is an ideal opportunity for a doctor with a special interest in Palliative Medicine to join the hospice at an exciting time of growth. This post would suit someone wishing to pursue a career or gain experience in Palliative Medicine. We are looking for someone who is highly motivated, willing to learn and flexible in their approach to support the team and patients on our specialist in-patient unit.
The Hospice serves the population of Staffordshire, North Birmingham and Walsall with excellent links with local hospital trusts. The Hospice offers a 25-bedded unit at Whittington and a 12-bedded unit at Walsall, Day Hospice, multi-disciplinary outpatient clinic, a Community Team, Hospice at Home and Advice and Referral Centre. We have a large education and research department as well as Supportive Care services.
The candidate must have full registration with the GMC with a licence to practice, 4-year full time postgraduate training at least 2 of which will have been in their relevant specialty. You require in depth knowledge of palliative medicine issues including symptom control, assessment of the acutely unwell patient and able to demonstrate skills in communication around of end of life care, an understanding of ethical issues relevant to palliative care. 1 SPA will be allocated for supporting professional activities and study leave will be available with supporting budget.

Patients come from across the hospice's catchment area, which ranges from Ashby-de-la-Zouch and Atherstone in the east, to Cannock and Walsall in the west – and from Burton and Uttoxeter in the north, to Sutton Coldfield and Coleshill in the south.
Care is offered at the hospice's centres in Whittington, Sutton Coldfield, Walsall and in patients' own homes across the region.
St Giles spends over £9 million a year providing its specialist services and with little more than a third of this funded by the Government, the registered charity relies heavily on donations and income generation from the local community.
