Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a consultant radiologist preferably with specialist interest in chest imaging to join its expanding and forward thinking Medical Imaging Department. Candidates with other specialised experience will be considered. The Trust has a strong and committed leadership team which is driving the organisation’s turnaround and has been recognised as one of the fastest in the country.  Committed to delivering the highest quality of patient care, investment in Radiology services in the form of talented professionals is coupled with continued strong growth and service development both as a stand-alone service and through collaborative partnerships via the South Yorkshire Working Together Partnership.  We are proud of the high quality patient care we deliver in which our community has confidence and are committed to valuing all of our staff as individuals and helping each to realise their full potential.

Applications are invited to join an existing team of 7.45 WTE radiologists. The Trust is keen to accommodate the right candidates and is offering flexible working arrangements through either full or part time hours, extended days. The posts will suit candidates seeking a range of interests that a small but busy acute trust can offer, with opportunities to develop areas of special interest within a dynamic department adapting to the changing NHS landscape.  We work closely with neighbouring Trusts and take part in cross-site reporting agreements to provide mitigation. The Medical Imaging Department operates seven-day services and extended working days. All non-medical staff work shift patterns to support the extended hours. Consultant radiologists all rotate to cover on-call during the week (17:00-20:00 only) and the weekend (08:00-20:00 only), with remote-reporting facilities provided by the Trust in each consultant’s home. We are one of the few NHS Radiology departments with no reporting backlog, turning the majority of examinations around in 4 calendar days.

The Medical Imaging Department is progressive and patient focused, equipped with the latest technology and imaging modalities. The department has 1 GE SPECT/CT camera; 8 Samsung and 4 Canon Ultrasound Machines; 1 Fujifilm Visionary DR room, 3 Fuji Retro Fit DR rooms (1 in ED); 2 CT scanners – GE Optima & Canon Aquilion; 1 1.5T MRI scanner; Philips Diagnost Eleva for general & interventional fluoroscopy; Canon Infinix C for interventional fluoroscopy; DEXA Scanner; 3 Fuji Amulets; Agfa PACS – upgrade to Enterprise solution 2020; CRIS with Dragon VR.

All radiologists have dedicated offices for reporting, aimed to suit the needs of all consultants. We offer a flexible approach to job planning within the framework of the consultant contract.

Experience in CT, MRI and general ultrasound are essential both for routine lists and also to enable a safe service to be offered on-call. Development of the uroradiology and gynae-radiology services as a specialist interest to complement those of our existing staff will be expected. Candidates should have subspecialty training in a recognised training programme for diagnostic gynae-radiology and uroradiology with competency in relevant diagnostic workload including pelvic MRI and imaging of the prostate gland.

Informal discussions and arrangements to visit can be made with Dr Dan Raw, Clinical Director tel: 01226 432679.
