Consultant Psychiatrist in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services
The CAMHS directorate in North Yorkshire, York and Selby locality of TEWV is comprised of the York Community CAMHS team based at Lime Trees, the Selby team based at Selby Cabin, the Harrogate Team based at Dragon Parade, the Scarborough Team based at Lake House and the Northallerton Team based at Brompton House. . There is also a 12 bed tier 4 CAMHS inpatient service in York which is managed by Leeds and York Partnership Foundation Trust. There are close working relationships between the tier 3 and Tier 4 teams and other trust CAMHS.
This post will provide input into York and Selby part of the NY and Y service. Specifically, this service is commissioned by the Vale of York CCG. It has a Single Point of Access service staffed by an experienced staff team who triage and provide a telephone consultation service to families and referrers. The SPA Team respond to all referrals and help young people and their families with the process of navigating through the options to find a service that meets their needs. The service works with a model of brief solution focussed intervention to empower young people and their families in achieving good mental health and well being. Staff job plans are designed to deliver services described in the TEWV Clinical Pathways, in order to provide high quality evidence based care.
A CAMHS crisis and home treatment team works alongside the generic CAMHS as part of the Trust wide Alternatives to Tier 4 National Pilot project, currently this provides a nurse led intervention from 10am to 10pm, further investment will expand the team into an MDT delivering care 24 hours a day every day of the year in quarter 2 of 2019..
An Enhanced Eating Disorders Team supplements the work of the generic Eating Disorder clinic. The service is delivered in 2 specified areas as a hub and spoke model. York is the hub service, with Scarborough as the spoke service. This mirrors the offer in the North Yorkshire service, whereby Harrogate is the hub and Northallerton is the spoke service. All 4 parts of the
service deliver against a shared service specification as per the Access and Waiting Times for Eating Disorders (2016), further financial investment by new models of care will result in an expanded enhanced provision with specified psychiatry provision in this development.
4 Local working arrangements
The population covered by the York and Selby team is approximately 300,000. This post is available due to retirement of the current post holder. There will be 4 consultant posts in York (3.4 wte) and 1 post (0.7wte) in Selby. The clinical caseload is comprised of conditions such as ADHD, anxiety, depression, psychosis etc. There is no specifically commissioned LD CAMH service; children with a learning disability and mental health concerns are seen within the generic team. The Lime Trees service is commissioned to undertake a number of Autism Diagnostic assessments each year. Young people with a diagnosis of ASD and mental health concerns are also seen within the CAMH service.
The post holder will see all presentations, requiring the input of a psychiatrist that arise from the secondary schools and their feeder primary schools within the specified York sector. The consultants would expect to hold a wte caseload of around 90 based on current consultant caseload taking into account the expansion of consultant numbers and development of NMP role and are asked to see approximately 1 to 2 new assessments per week. The service supports a model whereby all cases are co worked with other members of the MDT, care coordinator and lead professional role usually held by a non psychiatrist except where there is a formal mutual agreement that sole consultant input is required with other members of the multidisciplinary team
The Consultant joining the team will be expected to work in accordance with GMC guidance for working in multiagency and multidisciplinary teams.
The team joined in the CYP - IAPT programme in 2015 and has had trainees on a number of the Clinical and Leadership programmes. The team prides itself on being able to pull together at times of high clinical need, a strong nurturing ethos and on the high level of clinical skill and experience within the team.
The team has a proven track record in involving service users in service development and design. Service users are involved in staff recruitment and participation focus groups are planned.
