The University of Otago invites applications for the position of Dean, Otago Medical School and Head, Dunedin Medical Campus, Division of Health Sciences.
This position provides an excellent opportunity for a widely respected senior academic to establish themselves in one of the leading medical schools in the world.
The University of Otago is one of New Zealand's largest and most research-intensive universities. Founded in 1874, the Otago Medical School is based at the University's main campus in Dunedin and incorporates the Dunedin Medical Campus; University of Otago, Christchurch; and University of Otago, Wellington. The School is proud of its international reputation for research, clinical, and academic excellence.
It is expected that the appointment will be made at the level of professor. The successful applicant will be a widely respected senior academic in a relevant discipline.
Responsibilities of the role include:
- Providing leadership and advocacy for the School within the University and in the wider community.
- Executive responsibility for financial, academic and administrative matters of the School, reporting to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Health Sciences).
- The Dean and Head of Campus will be expected to remain research active.
The Dean and Head of Campus will be supported through an extremely collegial academic environment, an active and dynamic research culture, and by efficient professional services across the University. The University is firmly committed to growing the School with investment in a new state-of-the-art public hospital and facilities, and ongoing plans for increased student enrolment.
Skills and Experience
Applicants will have a distinguished and sustained record of clinical practice, teaching, research and scholarship and have demonstrated strong academic management and leadership skills. A strong commitment to, and international knowledge of medical education, together with a willingness to work with relevant professional bodies is essential.
Applicants will be a doctor registerable with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
