Consultant General Surgeon with an Interest in Upper Gastrointestinal Tract (GI) Surgery
Applications are invited for a Consultant General Surgeon with an interest in Gastrointestinal Tract (GI) Surgery to join a team of 10 General Surgery Consultants who sub-specialise in upper and lower GI surgery based at Leighton Hospital, Crewe. This is a substantive post to increase capacity for general surgical work with an on-call commitment of 1:8, outpatient and inpatient commitments including endoscopy sessions.
The department is well supported by 6 Higher Trainees (ST3+), 2 LAS ST3+ doctors, 2 CSTs, 2 GP Trainee, 2 LAS ST1/2 doctors, 1 Educational Fellow and 6 F1’s. All Consultants are based at Leighton Hospital with additional outlying clinics and endoscopy sessions being undertaken at the Victoria Infirmary, Northwich.
You will also be required to participate fully in undergraduate and post graduate teaching and will be expected to promote Clinical Governance within the department.
The Trust was rated as ‘Good’ by the CQC from its recent 2018 inspection, has a good reputation for research and benefits from some of the very latest clinical facilities; these include Critical Care, neonatal intensive care, a new suite of state-of-the-art theatres and a dedicated day case Treatment Centre. The Trust has invested significantly in recent years in clinical expansion and hospital mortality is ‘as expected’ across the range of indicators.
The Trust has a formal clinical partnership with its nearby University Hospital, benefits from local universities in Crewe (Manchester Metropolitan University)and in Chester. In addition, strong links to UHNM both clinically and academically exist.
Applicants must have full registration with the GMC including a Licence to Practise, and be on the Specialist Register (or be within six months of obtaining their Certificate of Completion of Training).
