We are seeking to appoint a full-time Consultant Ophthalmologist with a subspecialty interest in Paediatrics or Glaucoma.

Services are provided from two main sites, the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital and Burnley General Teaching Hospital. The local population is characterised by a fascinating and challenging mix of social class and ethnicity, set in a variety of urban and rural locations. The Trust is situated in the heart of Lancashire’s hill country, and within easy reach of the major cities of Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester. There are excellent rail and motorway links. In addition, the area is within easy distance of the Lancashire coast, the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales. Additionally there are excellent educational and school provisions in the area.

There has never been a more exciting time to join East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, with a brand new dedicated Ophthalmology build due to be opened in October 2019.   Applications are invited for the post of Consultant General Ophthalmologist with an interest to complement the existing team with subspecialties including, Paediatric Ophthalmology, Diabetic Eye Disease, Oculoplastic Surgery, Medical and Surgical retina, Glaucoma and Cornea.  Experience with adult ocular motility, neuro ophthalmology and paediatrics  or glaucoma would be desirable. The successful candidate will join a team of eight Consultants in a modern busy facility that is well equipped with enthusiastic staff and will participate in the provision of the Ophthalmology Service in East Lancashire. Clinical research, audit and service development are actively encouraged.

The Ophthalmology Directorate welcomes over 65,000 out-patient attendances per year as well as carrying out around 5,000 elective and non-elective surgical procedures. We are based across the Trusts two sites and comprise two busy out-patient departments, a Monday to Friday Specialty Specific Day-case ward area and two designated Ophthalmic theatre facilities. We also operate a number of out-patient clinic sessions at satellite facilities across the locality.

Applicants must hold the FRCOphth or equivalent and be on the GMC specialist register for Ophthalmology or within 6 months of attaining specialist registration at the time of the interview.
