The Royal Flying Doctor Service of Australia (RFDS) South Eastern Section has a number of opportunities for Emergency Medicine Registrars to join our Dubbo Base (New South Wales) for our intakes in February and August 2020 and 2021.

Note: If you currently do not meet our minimum criteria but are likely to meet the standards by the time you start then please continue to apply – e.g if you are due to finish ST3 in August 2020, you could start your year with us the same August.

Contracts are for a minimum 12-month period which reflects our commitment to you. All registrars undertake our comprehensive induction package with Sydney HEMS, Dubbo and Broken Hill RFDS. We train and support you to a high standard to help you learn and grow your skills as an emergency medicine doctor.

Rostering is divided between our retrieval bases in Dubbo and Broken Hill and the Emergency department at Dubbo hospital (Approx. 0.5 FTE retrieval and 0.5 FTE emergency department). Should you wish to pursue FACEM training in Australia, we are accredited for a total of 12 months training time with ACEM.

Our Standards:

  • Minimum 5 years post graduate experience (post ACCS/ST4 or above)
  • 12 months’ critical care (ED or ICU) and at least 6 months of Anaesthetics experience
  • Experience in the management of critically ill patients including trauma
  • Knowledge of ALS, APLS, ATLS (or equivalents) and modern critical care practice
  • Evidence of competency in procedures relevant to critical care medicine

Desirable:

  • Pre hospital experience
  • Obstetric experience
  • Experience in regional/rural/remote/telehealth medicine
