Consultant Bariatric Physician with a special interest in diabetes
Applications are invited for the new part - time post at this 650 bed acute hospital serving a local population of approximately 400,000.
This post straddles across the Directorates of general surgery and medicine. The appointees will join the Directorate of General Surgery and Obesity as part of an Obesity Service development plan that include re-establishing clinical research programme in COR. Bariatric Medicine is an evolving specialty in UK and the appointee is expected enhance this specialty with the support of existing Bariatric Centers in UK.
The post-holder will also complement the current consultant capacity in Diabetes Services and will be expected develop close working relationship with colleagues in Endocrinology.
Appointees will join a team of six existing Upper GI consultants, one Bariatric Fellow, one Physician, Obesity nurse specialists, Dietitians, Psychologists and Admin and Secretarial staff in providing a comprehensive Obesity service.
The Trust received an overall Good for services at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital following its last CQC inspection, and was recently announced the only hospital in the country to meet all of the key targets.
The Hospital has always been renowned for its friendly atmosphere and good working relationships. The Trust has University Hospital status with UCL and the Royal Free, which provides an opportunity to strengthen our teaching and R&D programme and brings a more academic environment to the hospital. This department is fully committed to teaching and training both undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors.
The Hospital has easy access to central London and the rural Chilterns. Excellent schools are found nearby. There is also very good access to the Midlands and London by road or by rail. London Luton Airport is within fifteen minutes drive of the hospital. Residence is required within ten miles by road or up to thirty minutes travelling time of the hospital.
Applicants must be fully registered on the UK General Medical Council’s Specialist Register and have MRCP. Specialist Registrars may apply if within 6 months of CCT.
