Senior Clinical Fellow Surgery
Applications are invited for an RCS accredited Senior Clinical Fellow (Peri/Post CCT) in Bariatric & Upper GI Surgery commencing October 2019 for a period of 12 months. The post-holder will be exposed to a wide range of bariatric procedures, principally laparoscopic gastric bypass, banding, sleeve gastrectomy, intragastric balloon and revisional bariatric surgery. The current unit NHS volume is >200 procedures per year, and it is expected that the fellow would be capable of independent practice by the end of the post. The Trust is an International Centre of Excellence, the Level 1 Bariatric Surgery Centre for the Southwest region and has an established Bariatric Fellowship programme with Royal College of Surgeons of England approval. As well as training in theatres, the fellow will also be exposed to the bariatric MDT and to outpatients. The fellow will be encouraged to become involved in the unit’s research activity and will contribute to the Middle Grade General Surgical on-call rota (non-resident) which is supported by both CT and F1 on-call tiers.
The Trust has an enthusiastic and expanding Upper GI Bariatric team comprising 5 Consultants, 1 Bariatric Post-CCT Fellow, 1 UGI Senior Clinical Fellow, 1 Specialist Registrar, 1 ST1/2 and 2 F1 doctors including this post and it is supported by a full range of support staff including Bariatric nurse specialists and Bariatric dietitians. The team works closely with Gastroenterology, Endoscopy and Endocrinology.
Ideally, the successful candidate will be post-CCT, although candidates who are within 12 months of completion of their training will also be considered. Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training and non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent training. Prior experience in Laparoscopic Bariatric surgery would be beneficial but not essential; however basic laparoscopic skills are a prerequisite.
