Are you looking for the opportunity to bring your public health knowledge and skills to the fore in helping East Sussex sustain a healthy future for its residents and economy, so that we can make a big reduction to the health inequalities that currently exist?

Do you want to add a population health focus to our integration agenda with the local NHS systems?

Can you bring creativity and drive to our team and partnerships and seek out new learning and development opportunities to strengthen the combined efforts across our county to deliver strong public health outcomes?

East Sussex is a great county in which to practise public health leadership. We know our needs, and have a skilled and capable workforce addressing these needs and making best use of the resources we have available. Based in Lewes, just 10 minutes by train from Brighton and just over an hour from Central London, we offer a flexible approach to working, and the support of a large team and stable leadership.

We have an aged and ageing population who bring both challenges and opportunities to our health and social care system. Our children are a great resource for the future of our county and its economy, but there are many challenges, such as levels of child poverty ranging from 10 to 25% across our District and Boroughs Ofsted recently rated our social services for children and families as outstanding.

We have made some excellent progress on suicide prevention and mental health improvement; however we have the challenge of managing suicide prevention at a significant place of high risk; and need to make the case for further attention to the levels of general mental wellbeing in all of our residents.

  • You’ll be keen to horizon scan for new evidence and practice, as well as for new threats to our population’s health.
  • You’ll be keen to juggle a heavy workload and high expectations.
  • You’ll also be able to bring your sharp mind promptly to make decisions and bring others with you.
