This NIHR funded Clinical Lectureship in Paediatric Neurology will be based in the College of Medical and Dental Sciences, University of Birmingham.  The applicant must have some ST run-through training in paediatrics and be eligible for or in receipt of a UK GRID higher specialist training post in a paediatric subspecialty. Postgraduate qualifications (PhD is essential).

Applicants must have a firm commitment to a career in academic Paediatrics and an interest in a relevant research area. The opportunities for collaborative research within the College of Medical and Dental Sciences are excellent. 

Job Role

Clinical

The post will have no more than 4 clinical sessions weekly.  Clinical sessions will be based at Birmingham Children’s Hospital or Birmingham Women’s Hospital NHS Trust. Ward Rounds and on-going training in a paediatric subspecialty will be provided at Birmingham Women’s Hospital or Birmingham Children’s Hospital. The lecturer will be supported by a SpR based at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, and an academic foundation Y1 doctor.  Sessions to include clinical administration, CME, postgraduate medical education, management will also be based at Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Teaching

The Clinical Lecturer will share in the teaching of Paediatrics to medical students. The Paediatrics clinical academic group is fully committed to innovative models of teaching including a multidisciplinary team approach.  The clinical lecturer will be expected to share in taught course elements.

Research

The Clinical Lecturer will have a developing research record that is compatible with an established Research Group within University of Birmingham, which has a significant relevance to paediatrics and child health. The Clinical Lecturer will be offered research facilities and support to help establish her/his research in Birmingham.  There will be strong encouragement in common with other research active staff in the College of Medical and Dental Sciences that the Clinical Lecturer should attempt to obtain funding for her/his research activities during the course of tenureship.
