Applications are invited for the position of Consultant in Trauma & Orthopaedics with a Special Interest in Lower Limb Surgery. This vacancy is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Surgeon, to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in our recently rated OUTSTANDING Trust.

St Helens & Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is now the only acute Trust in Cheshire and Merseyside, and is one of nine in the entire country, to achieve the title of OUTSTANDING, rated by the Care Quality Commission in August 2018.

St Helens & Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is located in Merseyside, which includes the great city of Liverpool, is within easy reach of North Wales, the Lake District and the Peak District and provides an interesting mix of rural and urban life.  Liverpool is a vibrant, musical city which has undergone a renaissance in recent years and has recently been named European City of Culture. 

The Trauma & Orthopaedic Department provides inpatient and outpatient services at Whiston, St Helens and Newton Hospitals. Inpatient elective work, trauma and fracture clinic activity undertaken on the Whiston site with general clinics and a majority of the day case activity being held on the St Helens site.

The Whiston site has 61 orthopaedic beds on three ultra-modern dedicated wards. One of the wards is a dedicated neck of femur area; one ward is a general ward taking mainly trauma but some elective and the third ward a dedicated elective ward.

Whiston hospital has three dedicated clean air theatres, 1 dedicated to trauma and 2 to the elective programme. Elective and trauma theatres are utilised 7 days a week. St Helens has access to 2 clean air theatres.

Applicants must possess full GMC registration and be on the Speciality Register or be within 6 months of achieving their CCT from date of Interview.

These posts will be subject to an Enhanced DBS (with barred list for vulnerable adults and children) disclosure.
