Junior Medical Retina Research Fellow in Ophthalmology
We require an enthusiastic doctor to work in the medical retina service in a dynamic department, staffed by seven consultants, with excellent technical facilities, currently based at the Birmingham & Midland Eye Centre and Sandwell General Hospital. This is post is very attractive with previous successive post holders successfully getting on ophthalmology national training programmes.
The post holder will be expected to have reasonable previous experience in clinical audit and research methodology in any field of medicine. Some basic experience in ophthalmology, or ophthalmology placements are desirable but not essential. There will be opportunity to further increase the experience in ophthalmology and consolidate clinical skills.
The appointed person will be expected to fully participate in departmental clinical research, help run trials, from setting up trials, help in patient recruitment, coordination and smooth delivery of trials. Other duties involve data gathering, analysis and help write up of publications and presentations. Help in departmental Audits ensuring completion of audit cycles.
The department provides a full range of sub-speciality services including cornea, glaucoma, medical and surgical retina, oculoplastics and paediatrics. Within the unit there is also a large orthoptic and optometry department, providing a wide range of services. This post is for a fixed term of 12 months with possibility of extension.
