Director of Clinical and Medical Education (DCME)
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Clinical Education Department at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Applications are invited for the post of Director of Clinical and Medical Education (DCME).
The DCME is responsible for directing, developing and maintaining the profile of Clinical and Medical Education within the Trust. They are responsible for the management of the learning environment and the quality of the training delivered for all learners. The role provides strategic direction, specialist medical and clinical training knowledge, planning, leadership and management to the Clinical Education Team. They should develop a local strategy for Multi Professional education, be responsible for the business of Medical Education and Training and for ensuring the delivery of the Educational Contract. The DCME will have a close professional relationship with the Dean/Health Education England/partner Higher Education institutions to ensure quality control of programmes, develop and deliver the wider multi-professional educational agenda and for supporting and developing tutors as educators.
The DCME is responsible for ensuring that Postgraduate training programmes adhere to the requirements of the Gold Guide, Health Education England Quality Framework, and the UKFPO. This requires a co-ordinated, cross-specialty approach with educational support readily available for those charged with implementing the various curricula and carrying out assessments.
Key duties include:
Providing evidence of robust systems for educational governance required by statute for the GMC QA processes, and other external bodies as required.
Ensuring that trainers and trainees are fit for purpose within the organisation.
Reporting to Trust Board through the Strategic Workforce Committee as appropriate to ensure awareness of the impact of changes in medical education on the organisation.
Implementing, monitoring and improving medical training programmes.
Providing an annual financial report and business plan.
This post attracts 5 PAs. The Trust is offering a further 5 PAs in clinical practice. This is a large teaching Trust with tertiary services in cardiology, haematology, and some respiratory conditions. Most specialty interests can be accommodated within the Trust.
