The All Wales Medicines Strategy Group
Remuneration - The post is unsalaried but the successful candidate will be entitled to receive an honorarium at daily rate of £337.
Time commitment - a minimum of 30 days per year
Tenure - The appointment will be for an initial period of 4 years (from July 2019)
We are seeking a Chair of The All Wales Medicines Strategy Group (AWMSG) – Do you have the skills and attributes in driving forward change management? Are you someone with an interest in, and knowledge of the National Health Service and how it operates in Wales along with a detailed knowledge of pharmaceutical issues affecting patients?
If so, we’d like to hear from you. With an ability to shape the medicine management agenda in Wales, you will play a key role in implementing AWMSG’s prescribing strategy, and providing strategic direction to the NHS in Wales and all key stakeholders.
You will also take forward the delivery of the All Wales Therapeutics and Toxicology Centre (AWTTC), which supports the Committee and NHS Wales in achieving their strategic objectives.
Established in 2002, the role of AWMSG is to provide advice on medicines
management and prescribing to Welsh Government in an effective, efficient and transparent manner.
The role of AWMSG’s is changing due to the introduction of a new voluntary scheme for branded medicines pricing and access was introduced across then UK, replacing the Pharmaceutical Price Regulation Scheme (PPRS). Under the new agreement, there is a commitment that NICE will increase its appraisal capacity to appraise all new active substances and significant extensions to marketing authorisations. The agreement commits NICE to achieving this by April 2020.
This has implications for the future role of the AWMSG. The Welsh
Government has therefore appointed the Welsh Institute for Health and Social Care (WIHSC) to undertake a review to examine whether there is a need for a change in the balance of the work of AWMSG and of its support arrangements within AWTTC. The shift would be away from the appraisal of medicines to increasing support for the NHS in Wales’ efforts to improve medicines related outcomes.
The closing date for receipt of applications is 13th May 2019.
Application forms received after this date will not be considered. It is expected to hold interviews in June.
