Trainee Breast Clinician
Applications are invited for a Trainee Breast Clinician at Musgrove Park Hospital, part of Taunton and Somerset Foundation Trust.
Breast Clinicians form an integral part of the diagnostic team managing patients with benign and malignant breast disease. This post is part of a national pilot project developed by The Royal College of Radiologists and the Association of Breast Clinicians, and part funded by Health Education England. The aim of the project is to train breast clinicians to a national, standardised curriculum covering all the relevant aspects of clinical skills, risk analysis and radiology necessary to become an independent doctor working in breast screening or symptomatic practice. The training will follow a formalised three-year training path. Upon successful completion of the training, a certified credential will be awarded by the Royal College of Radiologists, equipping breast clinicians with the necessary skills to lead screening services, family history clinics and work in symptomatic clinics.
You will be based at Musgrove Park Hospital Breast Unit, associated with Somerset Breast Screening programme and linked to the local Radiology Training Programme. You will join an enthusiastic and friendly multi-disciplinary team, including consultant radiologists, consultant surgeons, breast clinicians, and advanced practitioners from nursing and radiographic backgrounds. We provide an innovative integrated surgical, breast screening and symptomatic service.
Applicants must be fully registered with the General Medical Council and be eligible to work in the UK. The minimum entry criteria include evidence of Foundation competences or equivalent within the last 3.5 years but we would welcome applicants with wider experience from other specialties or general practice. For full entry and selection criteria please the person specification.

We also provide an Oncoplastic Breast Surgery Service, performing breast reconstruction using implants and Latissimus Dorsi Flap Breast Reconstruction on site. We have successfully integrated High Risk screening into the NHSBSP and have a dedicated Family History clinic for women thought to be at higher than population risk of breast cancer. We have strong links with Clinical Genetics Services based in Bristol, their clinicians have weekly out patients clinics at Musgrove Park. We use vacuum assisted core biopsy, intra-operative sentinel node analysis (OSNA), and there is planned introduction of Mammographic Tomosynthesis.
