CLINICAL TEACHING FELLOW – GENERAL AND VASCULAR SURGERY (ST3 / Registrar level)
POSTGRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN MEDICAL EDUCATION (FULLY FUNDED)
We have a vacancy for a Clinical Teaching Fellow (ST3 / Registrar level) in General & Vascular Surgery at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton to commence on 7th August 2019 for one year.
This is a combined clinical and teaching post, ideally suited to an individual who has completed Core Training and wishes to gain formal experience in undergraduate teaching prior to commencing Specialty Training or as an out of programme experience (OOPE) for an existing Specialist Trainee in Vascular or General Surgery seeking a postgraduate qualification in teaching. On average, half of the working week will be clinical and the other half devoted to teaching of medical students and educational learning. The post holder will embark on a course leading to a certificate of medical education through the University of Bristol, which will be fully funded.
The clinical half of the post will be based in the vascular surgery unit with a contribution to the general surgery registrar on-call rota (covering general surgery, vascular surgery and urology, 1 in 9). The successful candidate will gain experience in all aspects of vascular surgery, including open arterial surgery, endovascular aneurysm repair and endovenous surgery.
This post provides an excellent opportunity to develop clinical skills at registrar level. We will also support career development and there is an excellent track record (100%) for post-holders to be accepted for specialty training the following year. The post-holder will be expected to attend outpatient clinics and theatre sessions in Vascular Surgery and participate in the General Surgery on call at registrar level.
