Intensive Care Registrar

This post is accredited for training by the College of Intensive Care Medicine for 6 months of core ICU training, foundation training and rural exposure requirement. It is also accredited by the colleges of emergency medicine, general medicine, and rural hospital medicine training.
Whangarei is the largest hospital in Northland, providing secondary care servgices for the region, supported by three regional hospitals. Northland covers an area of 12,600 square kilometres and has a population of approximately 170,000. It is a popular place to work and our case mix is one of the more varied and challenging in New Zealand. As a region Northland is renowned for its beautiful beaches and relaxed lifestyle. There are great surf beaches and beautiful harbours and bays for sailing, kite surfing and windsurfing. It is also a top spot for fishing and diving with easy access to the world famous Poor Knights Marine reserve. There are also many beautiful forests and stunning hills to explore and climb.

We are seeking keen ICU registrars from June 2019. It is ideal to have at least 6 months experience in emergency medicine and paediatrics. Prior Intensive Care or anaesthetic registrar time would be desirable.
CICM trainees may have the option of 6 months anaesthesia during their 12 month appointment (2 trainees per year). Trainees from other specialties, depending on availability, may be offered three months in anaesthesia during their 12 month appointment. As an Intensive care registrar, you will also work as a member of the northland helicopter retrieval service which offers exciting and challenging experience. There is an active clinical training programme and regular quality assurance meetings.
