Consultant Anaesthetist with Special interest in Intensive Care
An opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Anaesthetist with a specialist interest in Intensive care to join the Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust. Although this post is based at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital working at the Princess Royal Hospital will be required.
The post will attract 10 Programmed Activities with the option for a further PA upon agreement, and you will have approximately four Clinical sessions each week (average) in Intensive Care, with the remaining sessions in Theatre.
The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford has 11 Critical care beds staffed to a dependency of five. All General Surgical activity has moved to The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. Maxillo-facial lists, ENT, elective Paediatrics and elective Orthopaedic Surgery are based at The Princess Royal Hospital.
Gynaecology, Obstetrics and Emergency Paediatric Surgery will move to The Princess Royal Hospital by September 2014
The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital has a total of seven ICU beds and six HDU beds, although flexible staffing allows for different levels of dependency to suit Clinical need.
The ICU serves a busy General Surgical Centre with large Vascular and Colo-Rectal services. Additional Surgical Services are – Upper GI Surgery including Bariatric, Gynaecology, Urology, Orthopaedic Trauma and eye Surgery.
There are Emergency Departments at both Hospitals.
Both Units offer comprehensive monitoring and support, including haemofiltration, cardiac output monitoring (Doppler, LiDCO, LiDCO Rapide), HFOV. There is good access to all radiology and cardiology services.
There is a busy Outreach service supporting Medicine and Surgery.
The government has recently announced a capital injection of £312 million for the transformation of the health services in Shropshire. This will include two vibrant hospitals: a planned care site and an acute care site, where a single 30 bedded ITU will be created.
The on call rota is a 1 in 9 for Intensive Care only. There is a separate general on call rota.
You must possess full registration with a licence to practise with the General Medical Council and it is essential that you are eligible for entry onto the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview), CESR or European Community Rights.
The Shrewsbury & Telford Hospital NHS Trust serves the total population of Shropshire and Powys which numbers approximately 600,000. The Trust has Associate Teaching School status and has medical students attending from Keele University.
