Are you an enthusiastic CONSULTANT in CHILD AND ADOLESCENT Psychiatry with a passion for providing and developing quality specialist Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services for young people? We want you to join a service recognised by the Care Quality Commission as OUTSTANDING.

At ELCAS (East Lancashire Child and Adolescent Services) our vision is to be a centre of excellence providing high quality Child and Adolescent psychological and mental health services that exceed people’s expectations. This vision is being delivered. We have been accredited by the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ Quality Network for Community CAMHS (QNCC) since 2016. In February 2019 the CQC rated us as Outstanding in providing Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led services – and as Outstanding overall.

We have well established Consultant-led teams providing specialist mental health services across East Lancashire and Blackburn with Darwen. This is an exciting time to join our team as a sixth Consultant as we build on our existing track record and develop our range of services in line with a regional transformation programme modelled on Thrive. You are likely to be interested in community CAMHS, but also keen to develop a special interest.

The service offers placements for core trainees in Psychiatry and General Practice; higher specialty trainees in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry; and students from a wide range of disciplines. You will be expected to contribute to the overall training offered within the service and to outside agencies.  The service has good links with the University of Manchester, the University of Liverpool, and the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN). There are a range of teaching and research opportunities that have been developed in the service in partnership with UCLAN.

East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust is a large and integrated healthcare organisation, with a vision to be widely recognised for delivering safe, personal and effective care. ELCAS is part of the Division of Family Care, and we have close relationships with Paediatric colleagues. We have an innovative Primary Care team working with local GPs and schools, and enjoy strong relationships with a range of third sector agencies through our CYP IAPT Partnership.

East Lancashire is a fantastic place to live and work. We are proud to work with diverse communities in market towns, industrial centres and rural areas. There are excellent schools and very affordable property. There is easy access to the cities and national parks of North West England and Yorkshire. As well as flat caps and mills, we have Premiership football and Michelin-starred restaurants in East Lancashire!

We want to support you in developing your career as a Consultant, and give you the opportunity to drive your ideas forward and have a positive impact on the lives of children and young people.

You will have full GMC Registration and be included on GMC Specialist Register or eligible for inclusion (or within 6 months of gaining specialist registration at time of interview) with evidence of relevant training and experience in Child and Adolescent psychiatry. You will have a broad clinical experience in different settings related to mental health, and experience of a wide range of therapeutic interventions. We can accommodate flexible working patterns and applications for less than full-time will be considered.
