Clinical Fellow ST3+ in Emergency Medicine
Applicants are invited to apply for a Clinical Fellow ST3+ post in Emergency Medicine. Post is from ASAP for a period of 6-12 months with a possibility of extension. Applications from candidates wishing to work less than full time are welcome.
These posts will be part of the full shift rota which will include evenings, nights and weekends. Posts will attract pay enhancements as per the rota according to the rota worked.
The department encourages a thorough work up of patients prior to admission and is well supported by 10 Consultants, 10 middle grade staff (mix of Specialty Registrars, Clinical Fellows & Specialty Doctors) and 18 Junior staff, (mix of F2, ACCS, GPVTS & Clinical Fellows ST1/2) the department is aiming to increase this number to 20 Juniors.
We believe that education is important; the successful candidate will participate in protected middle grade teaching once a week. Candidates working towards FCEM would be well supported with various FCEM examiners working within the Consultant body, they will be able to offer advice and run regular teaching sessions. One of our Consultants is the Training Programme Director for the Emergency Medicine trainees in the Severn Deanery. A number of our former ST3+ trainees have progressed to HST in EM and have now become EM Consultant. There is experience within the department of successful CESR applications and mentoring through this process will be available.
The department sees 80,000 new patients/year. The hospital is newly built and has modern facilities such as digital radiography and Electronic Patient Records. The department has a state of the art Resuscitation room with overhead x ray facilities, a chest pain assessment unit with access to Primary PCI and an observation ward. The department has recently undergone refurbishment and now includes an audio visually separate Paediatric area. In addition, there are Emergency Nurse Practitioners and Physiotherapy Practitioners. The Psychiatric Liaison Team and Social Work Assessment team are also based within the Department. We are a designated Trauma Unit and participate in Stroke Thrombolysis.
This post has not been approved by the Postgraduate Dean for training, however the educational opportunities in this post are identical to the Deanery posts.
If you have an interest in Leadership and Management and would like to do a formal qualification there may be an opportunity to do this whilst undertaking this role. The Trust supports the Health, Economics, Leadership Management Programme (HELM) and is committed to supporting those Doctors who are keen to learn more about NHS Management.
The successful candidate will have a study leave allowance which includes up to 30 days leave per year and £500 funding. Although the posts are not formally recognised for training there will be the opportunity to attend the internal teaching programmes.
Candidates must have at least 6 months of Emergency Medicine experience and must be at least an ALS provider. Continuing personal development is encouraged and a mentoring system is in place. Regular non-clinical shifts will be part of the rota for candidate’s own development.
