Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant posts in Respiratory Medicine required from as soon as possible for at least six to twelve months to cover a period of leave and support consultant expansion. The job may be extendable with mutual agreement. Flexibility may be given on the particular sub-specialties of the posts depending on the interests of the applicants in line with the department requirements. These posts will join the Respiratory team situated at both of the acute sites, which are City Hospital in Birmingham and Sandwell Hospital in West Bromwich. Our Trust is one of four hospitals in the United Kingdom participating in the Royal College of Physicians Future Hospital Programme. We are due to move to a single site in a state of the art facility, the Midland Metropolitan Hospital, in 2022.

The Respiratory Unit within the Trust has a designated Chest Clinic, designated Respiratory Wards on each site, two sophisticated Pulmonary Function Laboratories that are managed from the City site which include cardiopulmonary exercise testing, and well equipped Endoscopy Suites which undertake EBUS and medical thoracoscopy. There are supporting junior medical staff, specialist nurses for inpatient respiratory care, lung cancer, and TB and a dedicated respiratory general manager. There are specialty clinics in lung cancer, ILD, TB, NIV, bronchiectasis, and asthma. There is also growing engagement with integrated care and community working.

We serve an ethnically diverse population, with a wide range of respiratory disease and deliver a comprehensive service that allows for subspecialisation in many aspects of respiratory medicine.

Applicants must be on the Specialist Register for Respiratory and General Internal Medicine or possess CCT in Respiratory Medicine or demonstrate appropriate experience in a locum capacity. A broad experience of respiratory disease and general internal medicine is required.
