CONSULTANT IN PUBLIC HEALTH SOUTH CUMBRIA

FULL TIME PERMANENT POST (JOB SHARE CONSIDERED) LOCATED IN CUMBRIA COUNTY COUNCIL AND

EMPLOYED UNDER CUMBRIA COUNCIL TERMS AND CONDITIONS

An opportunity has arisen within Cumbria County Council to recruit an appropriately qualified Consultant in Public Health. This is a permanent post within Cumbria County Council and will be one of two Consultants in Public Health posts providing professional leadership supporting public health input to health and care systems locally.

While Public Health Consultants are expected to be able to work flexibly across the full range of public health activity, the initial key strategic responsibilities of the post will be twofold:

  • professional and strategic leadership for services in the South of the County, particularly for public health engagement with the Integrated Care System and Integrated Care Partnership covering that area;
  • acting as lead trainer for Cumbria’s Specialty Trainee Registrars and F2 placements

In addition the post holder will lead on other areas of work across the public health team and contribute to work with key partner agencies and other Local Authority colleagues. Alongside the other Public Health Consultant and other senior public health staff, the post holder will support the Director of Public Health in discharging his duties and deputise as appropriate.

The post holder will be based within the Public Health Team based in the south of the County and is part of the People Directorate.    

To be considered for this post you must be able to cope with multiple and changing demands, and to meet tight deadlines. A high level of intellectual rigour, political awareness, negotiation and motivation skills and flexibility is essential. You must be able to demonstrate a high level of tact, diplomacy and an ability to understand other cultures as well as advise, challenge and advocate across organisational boundaries in order to effectively influence stakeholders, senior Council staff and Local Authority Members.
