Applications are invited for three replacement permanent Consultant Cellular Pathologists to join the established 17 Consultant team at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. The department, which is affiliated to the University of Aberdeen Medical School, operates team based sub-specialist reporting with individual workload control using the RCPath. points system.

Post 1 will include Lymphoreticular, Breast and Respiratory Pathology.

Post 2 will include Breast and Gynaecological Pathology plus diagnostic Cytology.

Post 3 will include Dermatopathology

Participation in the general Histopathology and post mortem rota is desirable. The opportunity to participate in private practice is available. All three posts are offered on a 10 PA basis, including 2 SPAs, although there may be opportunity for up to an additional 2 EPAs by mutual agreement. Candidates who wish to work less than full-time will also be considered.

The Pathology Department at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, which handled 35,000 Surgical, 3,550 diagnostic Cytology and 63,000 Cervical screening specimens in 2018, serves a population in excess of 600,000 and has full UKAS ISO 15189.2012 accreditation. It is based within the combined hospital/medical school complex in close proximity to the clinical specialties it serves. The Molecular Pathology laboratory is close by on-site and the laboratory has an established, integrated Biorepository which enhances opportunities and provides support for research.

The service will be delivered from modernised and refurbished laboratory premises and is in the process of developing Digital Pathology. It provides a friendly, supportive working environment with established BMS dissection and voice-recognition reporting.

The appointee will be provided with an office with up to date IT facilities. Good working relationships exist between clinical and academic colleagues and there is opportunity to be involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. It is expected that the University of Aberdeen will accord the status of Honorary Clinical Lecturer.

Aberdeen (the 'granite city') on the North-East coast of Scotland has some excellent schools and leisure facilities. It provides the ideal environment for work-life balance with ease of access to the coast and some of the most spectacular countryside in the UK. For the outdoor enthusiast, there are ample opportunities for walking and adventure sports, including winter skiing.
