Northland is a popular place to work and we look for the best. You will gain excellent practical experience in managing very sick patients reflecting the high health needs of the region. Road trauma, farm trauma, beach trauma: you name it and we look after it.
Northland District Health Board is committed to delivering care in a way that meets the needs of patients and their families. This is done in an environment which supports staff, both in the delivery of their work and in their personal development based on our organisational Values:
- People First – People are central to all that we do
- Respect – We treat others as we would like to be treated
- Caring – We nurture those around us and treat all with dignity and compassion
- Communication - We communicate safely, openly and with respect to promote clear understanding
- Excellence - Our attitude of excellence inspires success, competence, confidence and innovation
The Department of Emergency Medicine is accredited for 12 months ACEM advanced training and paediatric log book requirements. You will work side by side with a dedicated team including 10 very experienced emergency physicians. The SMO group provides close supervision for trainees with a commitment to clinical teaching. You will gain experience in many procedures and develop your clinical skills to be the best. The SMOs enthusiastically lead our weekly RMO teaching sessions as well as teaching for those sitting examinations. Rotations to other specialty services (ICU, anaesthetics, paediatrics, and medicine) are established.
The department is well supported by all the other services. Radiology has the latest CT scanner, the first of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, and Emergency Medicine staff actively utilise ultrasound in their patient care, with 2 machines in the ED.
