Applications are invited for a new substantive Consultant post in Paediatric Emergency Medicine.

We are seeking a dynamic and motivated individual with a strong interest in education and simulation training to join our Emergency Department (ED) team, as part of an expansion of the consultant-led service.

Birmingham Children’s Hospital is a large, multidisciplinary, dedicated children’s hospital. The ED is one of the busiest paediatric EDs in the UK, with approximately 60,000 annual attendances across a broad case-mix, and it has the full support of all paediatric medical and surgical subspecialties.

We are also the Major Trauma Centre for children in the Birmingham area and West Midlands region.

You will be part of a friendly and dedicated team of 9 Consultants (increasing to 10 with this new post), 1 Associate Specialist, 5 Specialty Doctors, 4 senior Specialist Trainees (from Emergency Medicine and Paediatrics), 9 ST2/3s, and 1 Teaching Fellow. We are also proud of our ongoing development of Advanced Nursing Practice within the ED. The post includes a commitment to 1:6 weekends on call for the ED. As a university teaching hospital, we provide excellent opportunities for education, and there is an active research programme within our department.

Applicants are required to be on the GMC Specialist Register for one of the following: General Paediatrics with subspecialty accreditation in Paediatric Emergency Medicine (or equivalent recognised competence-based training), Emergency Medicine with dual accreditation in Paediatric Emergency Medicine (or equivalent recognised competence-based training) or be within six months of obtaining their CCT for either training path at the time of interview.

For further information or to arrange an informal visit please contact Dr Bridget Wilson (Clinical Lead) or Dr Chris Bird on 0121 333 9515/9516.

Closing date for all applications will be 29th April 2019.
