Applications are invited for the post of Consultant Haematologist at Bedford Hospital NHS Trust.
This is an exciting opportunity to develop Haematology services at Bedford with the 2 existing Consultant Haematologists, Registrar, 4 CNS and other supporting staff.
The appointee will work closely with the existing Haematologists in providing a range of Level 2a Haematology service, including diagnosis, investigation and treatment of patients. You will be highly skilled in the management of haemostasis and chemotherapy. Haemophilia patients are diagnosed at Bedford and treated at Addenbrookes Hospital. The Haematology Department undertakes bone marrow biopsies, outpatient blood transfusion and it supports ante-natal services.
There are no designated haematology beds. Inpatients are admitted under the care of the general physicians. The admitting consultant has clinical responsibility. The appointee will be required to participate in the Department on call rota. This role carries the responsibility to supervise the lab and ensure it gains/maintains UKAS accreditation.
The Trust is a research active organisation with a number of clinical trials, local academic and pharmaceutical collaboration. There are opportunities available for candidates to take part in the ongoing clinical trials or to lead other national clinical trials. R&D team is available to provide appropriate support.
