Specialty Doctor in Cellular Pathology
Applications are invited for a full time speciality doctor in Cellular Pathology at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust. The post is based at the William Harvey Hospital, Ashford, Kent.
East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust, with links to the University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University, was established on 1st April 1999 and manages three acute district general hospitals (at Margate, Canterbury and Ashford) with two supporting hospitals (at Dover and Folkestone). The Trust was awarded University status in August 2008 and Foundation status in April 2009. The Trust is one of the largest in the country, employing over 6500 people with a budget of around £480M.
We are now able to offer this exciting opportunity to join the team of 14 consultants (12 full time, 2 part time) in East Kent. The Cellular Pathology service, which has obtained UKAS ISO15189 accreditation, is centralised in Ashford at the William Harvey Hospital.
Cellular Pathology is a progressive, dynamic and innovative discipline.
Most of the consultants sub specialise in 2 - 4 areas of surgical pathology. The post-holder will be given flexibility within the existing structure to develop sub-specialist interests. We would be expecting the post-holder to work independently, when appropriate, and as part of their subspeciality teams.
We are one of the hospitals in the London/KSS deanery histopathology training rotation so we regularly have histopathology trainees in the department. We are also a teaching hospital, with medical students from GKT medical school having placements in East Kent in recent years and we now have the exciting new opportunity of working with Kent and Medway’s new Medical School, jointly provided by the University of Kent and Canterbury Christchurch University, which opens in September 2020.
The post-holder will have full GMC registration. It is desirable that they be a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists or equivalent. Experience of independent pathology reporting is desirable.
East Kent is an area of outstanding natural beauty with large areas of unspoilt countryside and easy access to the continent. It is a delightful place to live with a fantastic coastline, beautiful villages and the cathedral city of Canterbury. The high speed link offers easy access to London in less than 40 minutes from Ashford. Kent has retained the grammar school system and there are excellent state and private schools.
