Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Histopathology (full time) at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge.
The Department of Histopathology and Morbid Anatomy is a mixed University and NHS Department. The current annual workload of the Department includes more than 80,000 surgical requests, 4,000 referred cases, 8,000 non-gynaecological cytology, 1,500 paediatric surgical specimens, 1,500 neuropathological specimens and 500 necropsies (most of which are for H M Coroner).
All specialties are well represented and include all aspects of general surgical pathology, transplantation and renal pathology, breast, dermatology, gastro-intestinal, haematological, gynaecological and paediatric pathology as well as gynaecological (at Newmarket) and non-gynaecological cytology. Cardiothoracic work is dealt with at Royal
Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust but will be moving to Cambridge in 2019. All the routine pathology is handled by a number of specialist teams but is fully accessible to the junior staff. About 7% of histopathological specimens come from general practice. The Department
was inspected by the HCPC and the Institute of Biomedical Science and is accredited for HCPC training.
The duties of the post include reporting surgical pathology and currently there are particular needs for additional input in urological and breast pathology. Histopathology at Addenbrooke’s is fully sub-specialised and the successful applicant will be expected to develop their interests in
agreement with the department’s requirements.
Applicants are required to be on the GMC Specialist Register, or within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview.
