- Full Time
Applicants are invited for a consultant histopathologist post arising as a result of increasing demand and one incumbent consultant moving to part time. The successful applicant will join a small, affable and well regarded team comprising three full time and one part time consultants based in Barnstaple, but there is an increasing move towards working as part of a network with other hospitals in the southwest peninsula.
At present the hospital offers a general histopathology and cytology service across most specialties. No cervical cytology is undertaken and no specialist renal or medical liver biopsies are reported. Lymphoma reporting is undertaken in conjunction with the specialist lymphopathologists in Exeter. There is expected to be a move towards more subspecialised reporting in the future, and a strengthening of ties across the Peninsula, which allows an interesting degree of flexibility to the successful candidate in developing their career. The laboratory is fully accredited, and is well staffed with an entertaining and motivated workforce. There is a same day immunocytochemistry service, and the department meets all key performance targets.
North Devon Hospital is part of North Devon Healthcare Trust which provides integrated acute and community services across North Devon. The acute hospital provides a full complement of secondary care including cancer services, emergency care, maternity and paediatric services. It is a designated Cancer Unit and Trauma Unit.
North Devon offers a fantastic combination of coastline and countryside, so the famous surfing beaches of North Devon and the beautiful National Parks of Exmoor and Dartmoor are on your doorstep. Barnstaple also boasts excellent local schools and vibrant theatres in both Barnstaple and Ilfracombe.
Applicants must be fully registered with the GMC and hold FRCPath or equivalent.
We would welcome informal discussion with applicants, who can contact Dr Andrew Bull or Dr Nick Ward (consultant histopathologists) on 01271 349197 or Mr Lee Luscombe (Pathology service manager) on 01271 311754, email@example.com
