We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic consultant to join the Rheumatology team at Wrexham Maelor Hospital to fill a replacement post.
Wrexham is a large market town in North Wales, close to the English border and the historic city of Chester. The countryside surrounding Wrexham is exceedingly attractive. Cheshire, North Shropshire, the Berwyn mountains, Llangollen and the Dee valley are all within 15 miles of the hospital. Further afield are the National Parks of Snowdonia and Cader Idris and the resorts of North Wales Coast.
To encourage ambitious applicants, this job comes with 3 SPA sessions. This is to allow the successful applicant to develop a special interest to complement the development of the department and to enhance a fulfilling career. There is no requirement in this post to undertake acute medicine. However if interested applicants wish to do so this will be supported and accommodated.
The Rheumatology multi-disciplinary team in Wrexham provide services to the population of North East Wales. The full Rheumatology multi-disciplinary team currently consists of 3 full-time consultant rheumatologists (including the advertised post), two rheumatology specialist trainees, one Trust doctor, one GP ST trainee, one F1 (on rotation), 3 rheumatology clinical nurse specialists, a lupus nurse specialist (networked across North Wales), a rheumatology specialist pharmacist, a rheumatology specialist physiotherapist and a rheumatology specialist occupational therapist. We have a full, experienced and dedicated management and administrative team working for the department and this post comes with a single office and named secretary.
Based largely in the acute district General Hospital, the department is active in research supported by Health and Social Care Research Wales and training of undergraduates from Cardiff University as well as post graduates from the Cardiff Deanery. The department has community clinics in Deeside Hospital close to the Cheshire Border. There are currently specialist axial spondyloarthropathy clinics, CTD clinics, nurse, physio and pharmacist led clinics, combined clinics with Orthopaedics, and adolescent transition clinics. Regular multi-disciplinary team meetings occur with MSK radiology. The team supports the tertiary out reach provided by Aintree for interstitial lung disease and Liverpool Children’s’ Hospital for paediatric rheumatology.
Whilst benefiting from being situated within the acute hospital and having daily contact with all allied specialities and therapies. We have a shared management structure with primary care meaning our rheumatology team is uniquely placed to contribute integrated care in the best interests of the patient.

Terms and conditions are offered under the terms of the NHS Wales Medical and Dental Conditions of Service. The contract will be offered on a 10 session basis.
