Consultant in Medicine for Older People
Applications are invited for the above post of Consultant in Department of Medicine for Older People, based at St Richard’s Hospital in Chichester, part of the Western Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.
The successful candidate will join a highly regarded Department with a regional reputation for excellence. This substantive appointment is to expand the Department of Medicine for the Elderly by developing its Acute Frailty services.
This will mean developing the assessment of older people with frailty presenting as emergencies by focusing the new Consultant at the front door in A&E, the Clinical Decision Unit and on the Emergency Floor. There is also potential for the setting up of an Acute Frailty Unit.
It is an opportunity following reconfiguration of our in-patient beds however, so it does therefore allow a diversity of sub-speciality interests by negotiation.
It could assist in the further development of our dementia services, surgical liaison or onc-geriatrics. The job description has been designed to reflect the development of either of these services.
Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the only CQC-rated “Outstanding” hospital trust on the south coast and one of only seven in the country. We’re an ambitious organisation that champions our people, equipping them with new skills to continually improve services for patients.
The CQC recognised our leading approach to continuous improvement which encourages and supports innovation at all levels. We are a forward looking and innovative trust whose purpose is to provide high quality emergency and elective care for the people of West Sussex. Foundation Trust Status was achieved in July 2013.
