Permanent Consultant General Paediatrician with an interest
in haematology/oncology/bone marrow transplantation (10 PAs)
Applications are invited to apply for 1 x Permanent Consultant General Paediatrician with an interest in haematology/oncology /bone marrow transplantation based at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) within the International and Private Patients Directorate (IPP).
GOSH is a national centre of excellence in the provision of specialist children’s health care, currently delivering the widest range of specialist care of any children’s hospital in the UK. It is the only specialist Biomedical Research Centre for Paediatrics, the largest centre in the UK for children with heart or brain problems, and the largest centre in Europe for children with cancer. It works in partnership with the UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health (ICH), part of University College London, and together they form the largest paediatric research and teaching centre in the UK. The Centre for Children’s Rare Disease Research is due to open in July 2019. As one of the top five children’s hospitals, GOSH receives international referrals for its quaternary expertise.
There are currently two General Paediatric Consultants based in IPP (1.4 WTE). This third Consultant post supports the growth of the IPP Directorate. The clinical team of 12 Trust Fellows and 3 Consultant General Pediatricians in IPP support the specialty Consultants of GOSH in delivering care to inpatients and outpatients with conditions encompassing the majority of 60 plus specialty and sub-specialty services offered by the Trust.
The International and Private Patients Directorate has three wards; Bumblebee (21 beds), Butterfly (22 beds) and Hedgehog (10 beds). In addition Caterpillar is a busy outpatient service delivering 18,000 outpatient reviews per annum and which also serves as an acute review service for IPP patients.
The successful applicant will be based in the IPP Directorate, focusing on patient safety, promoting efficient patient pathways and providing paediatric training and support. The post holder will be expected to work closely with the current Safeguarding Team of nurses, Social Services and other allied external agencies.
